I graduated high school with a good friend who is very dedicated to feeding her family well. She believes fully in supporting local growers, eating seasonally, and buying organic. Although this takes far more time and research than driving to the local big-box grocery store, she really believes the benefits of doing so far outweigh the time spent. My friend often involves her two young sons in these adventures. She takes them with her to local farmers and artisans to buy fresh milk, homemade bread, and seasonal vegetables. She has formed wonderful relationships with these people, and she feels good about making healthy choicesand having such options to feed her family. When we moved to Texas, she passed along many of her favorite places to shop. We also followed in her footsteps and logged on to www.shopelectricityratestexas.com to make sure that we were making informed and economical choices for our own family in our energy providers. My hope is that as I get into the routine of buying more local foods, I will be able to share her same passion and ability for supporting the farming community and others that strive to provide excellence in the food options we have.
The 2012 Oscars were on last night, and I can’t say that I watched the whole thing. I did however watch the beginning of it, as all the stars showed off their dresses. There were a lot of dresses that I liked,and then of course there were some that were not as nice. The one thing I realized when I was watching this, was that the more simple dresses were actually the nicest ones. A lot of stars go over the top with glitter and crazy colors. I seemed to like all of the light colors, and the dresses that can be considered plain. I like how you could add accessories to those types of dresses, and it won’t be overdone. Maybe next year, some of those stars will realize that going overboard doesn’t always mean that they will look the best.
There are many jobs (or just activities that people take part it) that require special safety clothing. From flame resistant to high visibility clothing, what you wear can be essential when it comes to staying safe with the activity you are doing. I can assure you this is true, because my aunt is a crossing guard. Especially in the winter months, she’s working when it’s starting to get dark outside. She was getting nervous that the cars won’t be able to see her that well when she was helping kids cross the street. I bought her a bright high visibility jacket, and she now feels much safer at her job. As a college student, I can attest that I pretty much can’t go anywhere on campus without seeing some type of clothing with my school’s name on it. I guess it’s just the thing for college students to wear. I’m not sure if it’s because they want to support their college, or if it’s convenient to go buy an outfit from the school book store. Either way, I can’t say I disagree with all of the students who wear their schools clothing. Continue reading →
What I’m about to talk about is no surprise. I’m talking about the fact that in most cases, guys care more about being comfortable in their clothes than actually dressing nice. While it is nice to buy our guys a nice dress shirt and tie, maybe we should get them what they really want. I’ve recently been on a new show kick, and I think I could almost fill my own closet with all of my shoes. It is winter, so of course the main type of shoe I purchased were boots. The thing I love about boots is that they are so comfortable, especially my uggs. I now have uggs in black, cream, and even pink. I like how I can wear comfortable boots, and still be fashionable. There are still some other colors that I want to get, but for now I’m happy with what I have. Especially with the black and cream colored boots, they match with pretty much anything I wear. It’s nice to be able to put on my boots when I’m in a hurry, and not have to worry about whether or not I’m matching. Continue reading →
I’ve been watching the trends in fashion for quite some time and it still amazes me how form and function often gives way to form. What I mean to say is, often clothing is developed for use in a particular sport, and then becomes adopted to mainstream use. Take the case of riding boots. These started out in the realm of equine riding. They have a very specific purpose when it comes to horseback riding, and are made for the seated position. When a rider is upon a saddle, the boots slip down. So, they’re made long and often go above the knee. This is comfortable when riding, but not very practical for walking around during the day to day. Continue reading →
I can’t honestly say that I have a favorite store, but there are many stores which I shop at very often. Forever 21 is one of these places, and there are so many stores within the New York area which is very close to me. Everyone knows Snooki as the pint size,tan party girl on MTV’s show Jersey Shore. She displays herself as having no care in the world, and as someone who just parties all the time and doesn’t work. It turns out she has at least done some work (of course after her GTL time). Snooki has a new fashion line, featuring perfume, sunglasses, shoes,purses, and much more.
